Amelia Earhart was born on July 24th 1897 and went on to become a distinguished American aviation pioneer and author. She is perhaps best known for being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, although she set many aviation records.

Amelia Earhart went missing over the Pacific Ocean on 2nd July 1937 and was declared dead on 5th January 1939, although 'she' appeared in an episode of Star trek: Voyager which reinvented the story that she had been kidnapped by aliens and taken to a distant planet!
