Barack Obama was born on 4th August 1961 and went on to become the 44th President of the United States, and its first non-white president. Campaigning on the need for change, he found it hard to create that change in the first term of his presidency, losing both houses of Congress in the mid-term primaries making it difficult to pass legislation, particularly his controversial health care reforms.

Barack Obama came to office with probably the worst or at least most difficult political inheritance. The American economy had been battered by a severe worldwide economic recession, the military were at war in both Iraq and Afghanistan and many American refused to believe in a black president many even believing he was a covert Muslim.
