Margaret Thatcher was British Prime Minister from 1979-1990 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. She is the only woman to hold either post. Known as the Iron Lady, she once remarked of her cabinet, "I'm extraordinarily patient provided I get my own way in the end." In fact she often appeared to be somewhat contemptuous of all men quipping "If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman."
After she was deposed as Prime Minister by these same men she was ennobled and holds a life peerage as Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven in the County of Lincolnshire, which entitles her to sit in the House of Lords.
As for her political philosophy, it was pretty simple "I am in politics because of the conflict between good and evil, and I believe that in the end good will triumph."
