Juan Pablo Montoya Roldán was born on 20th September 1975 in Columbia and a
former Formula One driver.
Throughout his Formula One career, Montoya only
finished six races — he nevertheless won three pole positions and stood on
the podium four times, including his maiden Formula One victory at the 2001
Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Reflecting on
his lack of success, Montoya ruefully commented, "I would have been able to
finish higher up had things gone our way." (!) Others, had more favourable
comments about his legacy. Andrew Benson, a
Motorsports Editor for the BBC, wrote this about Montoya's Formula 1 legacy
in 2006. "His incredible skills at overtaking - - are inseparable from his mercurial character. It is easy to
forget that until Montoya's arrival in the sport in 2001, overtaking in
modern F1 was considered so difficult as to be almost impossible."
