Shirley Jane Temple was born on April 23rd 1928 and became one of America's most famous child actresses, in fact, from 1936-38, Shirley Temple earned more than any other Hollywood star!

However the transition to adult acting proved difficult, and by the age of just 21, Shirley Temple's career appeared over.

However a new career beckoned, one of diplomacy and she became ambassador to Czechoslovakia, under President George H.W. Bush. Shirley Temple Black now lives in northern California from where, in 1988, she penned her book, Child Star: An Autobiography.
